Case Study: Sports Leaders UK
We built a learning portal for Sports Leaders UK for customers within the education sector.
Client’s challenge
Sports Leaders UK provides nationally recognised leadership awards and qualifications that help people develop essential life skills such as organisation, motivation, communication and working with others. As an OFQUAL awarding body Sports Leaders UK’s qualifications are recognised as part of the KS3, KS4 and KS5 curriculum providing learners with an independently assessed measure of knowledge, skill and volunteering.
Carbon Six Digital have worked with Sports Leaders since 2009. Our original brief was to take over the support of the existing public facing marketing site from a previous incumbent agency. Since then our relationship has grown and diversified and to date includes:
- Development of several new versions of each of the Sports Leaders digital properties;
- Infrastructure hosting and support for the web tier;
- Development of resource for digital marketing activities including social media and email marketing;
- Provision of consultancy on the development and implementation of a new company wide CRM and ERP system using Microsoft Dynamics, advising on the impact on the web tier and integration with Umbraco.
Our solution
Sports Leaders have a number of Umbraco websites all hosted from a single Umbraco instance hosted on their own Amazon cloud server managed by Carbon Six Digital.
The Sports Leaders suite of websites provide:
- A public facing marketing site
- Online ecommerce system for sale of merchandise
- A secure members area for Learners (providing access to learning resources and special offers) and Tutors (providing access to Tutor Resource Packs and other learning resources as well as self-service ROA’s and certificates for awards)
- An online eforms service to enable forms to be sent direct to Sports Leaders
- A staff extranet
- Microsites for campaigns at certain key times
Key features
Awards & Qualifications database
The Awards & Qualifications database on the public website provides marketing information to engage schools and colleges to deliver Sports Leaders qualifications. Awards and qualifications are categorised by their qualifications framework (QCF or SCQF). This section of the site is currently being redeveloped to integrate an online quotation and ordering system to integrate with Microsoft Dynamics CRM.
eShop
Using TeaCommerce the Sports Leaders eCommerce engine enables customers to order Sports Leaders branded merchandise. The system integrates with SagePay for card processing services and with the internal database of Sports Leaders fulfillment company, enabling seamless end-to-end ordering with little human intervention from Sports Leaders staff.
Tutor training course booking
Tutors must attend an appropriate tutor training course prior to delivering a Sports Leaders qualification. The course booking system is integrated with the Awards & Qualifications database to signpost potential tutors to the appropriate course and enable them to request a reservation.
Learners Association
This secure members area provides a learning resource database where Learners can download PDF and other resources. User logins are managed through integrations with Sports Leaders CRM systems. We also provide a Premium Membership service, integrated with PayPal, where older learners can choose to pay to access additional resources. The Learners Association also has integrations with the national volunteering opportunities database Do-It.
Tutors Association
This secure members area provides information and guidance notes to existing tutors. Once a tutor has attended a tutor training course, they are granted access to the appropriate Tutor Resource Pack for that course, providing guidance, learning outcomes, assessment criteria and downloadable learning resources.
Self-service certification
Through the Tutor Association we also enable tutors to produce personalised PDF based Records of Achievement and certificates for awards. These are based on information fed from the Sports Leaders qualifications database.
