Those following events at Carbon Six Towers will know that last month we rebranded from Orcare toCarbon Six Digital. But I’ve been asked a few times – why Carbon Six?
The name change has been an aspiration of mine for some time. I was unhappy with Orcare - we’d had the name since I dreamt it up circa 1999 when I was developing software and websites for care homes. But we’ve moved a long way since then.
Now we are a specialist Umbraco development agency, building awesome .NET based websites for other agencies. We’reUmbraco Gold Partners, it is at the absolute core of what we do, and we wanted that to be communicated through our name.
So how does Carbon Six relate to Umbraco? Hold tight…
Umbracois the Danish word forAllen Key, the sort you get in Ikea flatpacks. Allen keys are hexagonal.Grapheneis a type of super strongcarbonwhich is laid out in a hexagonal lattice, also the atomic number of carbon is six.
Unfortunately I couldn’t spell graphene, so Graphene Six was out.
I can’t claim credit for the name, instead that was our Commercial Director Adam Beard who dreamt it up, over a weekend after I’d totally despaired and decided not to change the name at all. So a hat tip to Adam.

We’ve increased our skill base and the size and nature of the projects we undertake.
We started off working for SME’s and still do, but much of our work is now for major agencies and multinational corporations.
We’ve evolved into something different.
So, to reflect this change, we are going to say goodbye to Orcare.
Say hello to Carbon 6
We are changing our name to reflect the change in our business.
We could give you some great rationalisation for why we have chosen to rename ourselves Carbon Six Digital but,…
